Lifestyle Factors That Improve Brain Health

As we age, it becomes increasingly important to take proper care of our brain health in addition to how we’re caring for our bodies and physical health. For seniors who are working to stay healthy, making better choices that lead to boosting your mind functionality all starts with a few simple lifestyle changes. Read on below for our top tips!

Get Good Sleep

You want to make sure you’re getting a good night’s rest – this is a huge factor that impacts our mind’s abilities. It’s recommended for seniors to get a minimum of 8 hours of sleep every night, and this sleep should good quality and deep so our brains can feel restored the next day.

Stay Active

We encourage you to get in your daily exercise and stay active! When we’re being physically active, we’re also making our brains happier. Doing simple exercises every day can lessen feelings of depression or anxiety and also release feel-good endorphins for our brain.

Journal

Breaking out the old tradition of journaling can work wonders for our brain health! When we physically write out our thoughts, feelings, and frustrations, we’re releasing built-up stress and emotions. This therapeutic activity is great for the brain as we cast stress away.

Eat and Drink Healthy

Fuel your body and give it what it’s craving! This means Vitamin C, water, and a little switch-up. Get your body plenty of Vitamin C through good foods like peppers and oranges. Up your water intake and make sure you’re staying hydrated. In the mornings, try to switch to tea instead of coffee so you can lessen the amount of caffeine you get in the morning.

Talk to Other People

Stay social and keep connected! Whether it is in-person or over the phone, being socially active and having conversations with others is good for our brains and social wellbeing!
